CHAMEO has been developed by Goldbeck Consulting LTD within the NanoMECommons project and is supported by the European Materials Modelling Council.
CHAMEO is closely aligned with two major standardization efforts:
Elementary Multiperspective Material Ontology (EMMO): CHAMEO is a domain ontology developed under the EMMO framework. This ensures that it shares a common foundational structure with other materials-related ontologies, facilitating seamless integration within the broader EMMO ecosystem.
Characterization Data (CHADA) Framework: The initial development of CHAMEO is based on the CHADA documentation scheme introduced in the CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA 17815). CHADA provides guidelines for structuring characterization data, which CHAMEO translates into an ontology-driven framework. This work on CHAMEO has been used as the basis for defining the new CHADA template, leading to the release of CWA 17815:2025.
